Darrell demonstrating the correct way to apply mud to a wall.
Poor Joann got suckered into helping.Ian's bedroom looks like the set of one of those endless HGTV-to-the-rescue type shows. When we moved into our house five years ago, his room had a wall of square mirrors. We decided to leave them up because we didn't want to deal with the hassle of taking them down. But then a year ago a couple of them started falling off. Now we're in the middle of remodeling his room, including ripping out old carpet and installing new laminate flooring.
The problem with the mirrors--when we took the rest of them down, part of the drywall came with them. (This explains the top two pictures.) Adding the mud created a very different surface from the other walls, so we decided to experiment with the paint by adding sand to it. (This is a very messy job, by the way, and when I was done it felt like I had more paint and sand on me than the wall.) The walls are now complete so we're ready to rip out the carpet. Will post "after" pictures when all is done, but it probably won't look like one of those HGTV remodels. We'd have to call in the pros for that.

There's always time to take a wiffleball break.
